Jun 17: World Tessellation Day
To understand is to perceive patterns.
—Isaiah Berlin
Look around. They're everywhere. We are surrounded by patterns, interlocking shapes that fit seamlessly together called tessellations.
Tessellations occur naturally within our world, powerful yet subtle signs that we and everything around us are connected. But we resist recognizing them, too consumed by our thoughts to notice the unseen order, the balance within the chaos.
But what if we begin to recognize the tessellations around us to help us remember the natural order of unity and connection?
We crave equilibrium, a desire to travel the middle path of inner peace. But the world delivers the opposite on our doorstep, the manufactured disarray that we, not nature, create.
It takes mindfulness to balance the Yin-Yang dance of energies, like a piece of metal between two magnets of equal strength. The metal remains stationary without being repelled or attracted.
Like the metal, you remain stable with an even mind free from the pull of emotional turmoil, maintaining an interlocked balance where inner peace resides.
On June 17th, we celebrate World Tessellation Day—a day set aside to open our eyes and see the intricate patterns, the symmetry of stability and balance, the beauty in our interconnectedness.
Tessellations in Nature
A true tessellation is an arrangement of shapes covering a surface with no overlaps or empty spaces. You will see them everywhere when you start recognizing them and using them to bring your mind into the inner connectedness of all things.
Play with it like a spiritual scavenger hunt. Honor yourself for being mindful and seeing the beauty and balance of everyday life. "Ah, there's a sunflower. I recognize the natural balance and harmony within its petals. There's an order here. A place I have within myself. Let me go there."
Einstein said the most important question you must ask yourself is whether you believe the universe to be hostile or friendly. You know the answer when you look into the perfect arrangements of nature. And that nature is you.

“The basic laws of the universe are simple, but because our senses are limited, we can't grasp them. There is a pattern in creation.” —Albert Einstein

“Stuck on this carousel my little eye can catch one-million-year-old light. A vast pattern — of which I am a part... It does not do harm to the mystery to know a little more about it.” —Richard Feynman

“If you graph the numbers of any system, patterns emerge. Therefore: There are patterns everywhere in nature.” —Darren Aronofsky

“Throughout the infinite, the forces are in a perfect balance, and hence the energy of a single thought may determine the motion of a universe.” —Nikola Tesla
Despite appearances, everything we see, including ourselves, is ultimately a pattern of light and energy.
I had the privilege of witnessing an autopsy—not behind a glass wall, but standing next to the table as the doctor opened the chest cavity.
To my surprise, all our organs are fitted into perfect tessellations, interlocking like puzzle pieces. Even the wrinkles in our brains are an intricate network of folds and crevices.
I experienced a profound A-ha moment, realizing everything in life is connected, even if we can't see it.
Our thoughts, feelings, actions, and the world follow a certain order and rhythm. And when we tune into this natural flow, we can find balance and harmony within ourselves.
Take the time to focus on the tessellations in your life. Embrace the beautiful interplay between your thoughts, feelings, actions, and surroundings. And remember that by aligning them harmoniously, you can unlock the limitless power within yourself.
Let us know the patterns you see in your world and how you experience them. What do you see?
